This was my ideal concert: sitting in a dark yet beautifully lit church, listening to their music and Hope's dreamy voice. The beauty of the church made the moody music more fitting and I felt right at home. Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band formed in 1988 in Santa Monica, California, from remnants of the group Opal.Founding member David Roback's friend Hope Sandoval became the group's vocalist when Kendra Smith left Opal. The band's current lineup consists of Sandoval (lead vocals, guitars, percussion), Colm Ó Cíosóig (guitars, bass, keyboards, drums), Suki Ewers (keyboards), and Hope and David Roback formed Mazzy Star in the late '80s and released 3 albums in the '90s with a fourth being released in 2013. Two EPs were also released: At The Doorway Again Hope Sandoval (born June 24, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter of Mexican descent, known as the lead singer of Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions. Sandoval has toured and collaborated with other artists, including Massive Attack, for whom she sang "Paradise Circus" on the 2010 album Heligoland and the 2016 single "The Spoils". With its steady, shuffling rhythms and tried-and-true drowsy vocals, the song is a classic Mazzy Star song that sounds like a daydream in motion. 8. Take Everything.
