Uxmal was established in 500 A.D. and became one of the most prominent and influential sites in the Mayan empire. Most of the major construction in the city was concentrated between the 7th and 9th centuries when the city was the capital of the Mayan State, with estimates placing the population between 15,000 and 35,000 inhabitants at its peak. Although the area around Uxmal is heavily forested, they did not get a lot of rain when the Mayans occupied the area. To make sure they had enough water, they constructed huge cisterns to hold water. Uxmal is a big set of ruins. The main set of ruins is about 150 acres. The Pyramid of the Magician is one of the tallest Mayan buildings. There's not a literal bus stop, just a tree where people wait for the bus. The bus leaves Merida in the morning at 9:05, 10:40, and 12:05 and leaves from Uxmal back to Merida at 12:15, 3:15, and 5:15.
