He has been described as "the grand master of calypso" and "the greatest calypsonian of the post-war age". Early life. Music career. Lord Kitchener (born Aldwyn Roberts) shares with Mighty Sparrow the title of the world's best known Calypso singer. He began his career in Trinidad and won his first Road March award for singing in 1946. In 1948, Kitch emigrated to England in the company of singer Lord Beginner and newsreel footage of the time shows him singing "London Is the Lord Kitchener (1922-2000) was a Trinidadian calypsonian. Kitchener began his career in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, where he won the Arima borough council's calypso competition five times between 1938 and 1942.
