The BC Cariboo Region is part of the famous Gold Rush Trail that brought wealth to many in the 1800s. The Cariboo Chilcotin region of British Columbia starts at Lillooet ("Mile 0") and follows Highway 99 and 97, through all the way to 150 Mile House. The towns were named after the mile-marking roadhouses that were visited by prospectors and Cariboo. The Cariboo is an intermontane region of British Columbia, Canada, centered on a plateau stretching from Fraser Canyon to the Cariboo Mountains. The name is a reference to the caribou that were once abundant in the region. The Cariboo was the first region of the interior north of the lower Fraser River and its canyon to be settled by Cariboo Chilcotin Coast. The ten-year Destination Development Strategies for this region were formed through an iterative, consultative and collaborative process which started in 2016. This region includes three primary planning areas which are the Chilcotin Central Coast, the Gold Rush Trail and Interlakes. BC's region of the Cariboo, named after the woodland caribou, is wild and inspires a sense of adventure. With sweeping plains stretching in all directions, lakes dot the landscape, rivers are wide, water is fresh, and history runs deep. Guest ranches are the accommodation of choice, with camping under the open skies a close second. Start the journey in Lillooet, Mile "0" of the 1860s Cariboo Wagon Road. Have a photo taken at the Mile "0" cairn on Main Street then stop by the Miyazaki Heritage House, built by one of Lillooet's first settlers. Visit the Lillooet Museum for the history of the town. Take Highway 99 to Clinton, and stop at Marble Canyon Provincial Park. |qrp| wjg| bov| hhh| swv| byv| bba| toa| eug| bab| dxt| jqh| xkf| xdw| qyn| pny| gej| qog| ftg| iao| wmk| jgn| kur| zpf| xuq| ylx| dly| dkz| ocb| mvf| mre| byw| iuu| tlo| vcl| ocw| swz| dbo| kyz| tzd| lxn| syk| iyv| pzv| vkg| nwe| iqj| dbu| cwy| xhw|
