Diversity. 7 species (see text ) Epipedobates is a genus of poison dart frogs native to northern South America (Colombia and Ecuador) west of the Andes, including the western slopes. Singing is a common male courtship behavior amongst Anurans. The females, attracted by the song, enter a male's territory where he grasps them around their waist or neck, and holds the female until she releases around 15-40 eggs (in a clear gelatin), onto a leaf. The male fertilizes the eggs, and then guards them.
