In the 1880s, the rowing club entered a 'Golden Age', winning numerous Challenge Cups, including the prestigious West of England Challenge Vase. As the club continued to excel in regattas across the country over the 20th century, Royal Worcester porcelain was regularly presented to them in the form of two-handled or 'Loving' cups. The Worcester Rowing Club can trace its foundation to 1874 but predating this there were a number of Worcester based clubs including the Ariel rowing Club (1841-1881). Indeed Dr Galligan has discovered that, between 1841 and 1905, there were 20 separate rowing clubs in Worcester alone.
