BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) - Henry (Gip) Gipson has died. Gip was a blues guitarist and lifelong musician who inspired other musicians around the world. Gip owned Gip's Place, one of the last true juke joints left in America. His manager Diane Guyton posted on social media that Gip died Tuesday. The last time WBRC FOX6 spoke with Gip he had just BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Despite initial reports that the longtime blues juke joint in Bessemer would be closing for good this past weekend, the family of its longtime owner says differently. On what was initially being promoted as its final show, Sheree Stafford went onstage between songs at Gip's Place Saturday night to thank the crowd Over the years, party after party, Henry Gipson is now one of the most photographed people in the world, having had his picture taken tens of thousands of times. In recognition for his contribution to keeping the Blues alive, and his tireless efforts throughout the Bessemer community and the state of Alabama, The Birmingham Record Collectors Conflicting reports from Gip's Place management and his family left the future of the juke joint uncertain. Henry Gipson's Facebook account made the announcement that Gip's Place would host the final concert on Saturday, August 10th. However, Gip's family announced that the juke joint would continue under new management. In a Facebook post made on Gipson's Facebook page Thursday, management at Gip's Place announced that Saturday would be the last night the longtime blues joint would be open. Manager Diane Guyton confirmed the news to CBS 42 Thursday evening.
