To kickstart the transformation of Thamesmead, Peabody supported both Councils' bids to the Mayor of London's Housing Zone fund. The resultant funding is to be used to create 2800 homes over 10 years in two locations: Abbey Wood/South Thamesmead (Bexley) and Plumstead/West Thamesmead (Greenwich). This funding will allow the two Councils to Peabody's work in Thamesmead exemplifies our placemaking approach. Our ESG report 2021/22 sets out the breadth of activity to rejuvenate the town and create new opportunities for local people. Located in South-East London, Thamesmead has the same land area as central London but a population of 45,000. Thamesmead has its origins in the post-war reconstruction of London. This period presented an opportunity to address the shortage of homes and provide alternative solutions to London's dilapidated inner city housing.
