As Education guide at Tophill Low nature reserve I often meet new visitors who have just experienced what seems to be the longest 4-mile journey from the main road to somewhere that appears to be in the middle of nowhere, it is just that, but it's well worth the journey. The reserve covers 300 acres and is owned and managed by Yorkshire Water. Tophill Low is situated off the A164, a couple of miles east of the village of Watton between Driffield and Beverley in East Yorkshire. It is similar to Rodley Nature Reserve in set up as it has a pumping station run by Yorkshire Water within the reserve, however this pumping station is considerably bigger than the one at Rodley. Upon arriving at the entrance to the reserve the road leads you Tophill Low, near Driffield, opened on Saturday after being partially closed because of flooding, construction work and the pandemic. Yorkshire Water, which runs the site, planted 3,200 trees and Margaret explained the best parts of the reserve to see these two and described the rest of the reserve. Very peaceful, tranquil place with lots of well constructed hides dotted around the various lagoons and well marked trails through a variety of woodland habitats. A great place for the family to spend a whole day enjoying nature.
