Angela Strehli's Career. Blues singer, songwriter, and record producer, 1966-; sang in such bands as the Fabulous Rockets, Sunnyland Special, and James Polk and the Brothers, 1966-1970; teamed up with bluesman W.C. Clark in the blues band Southern Feeling, 1971-1974; worked at Clifford Antone's blues club as singer, stage manager, and booker, 1975-1989; played Carnegie Hall with Stevie Ray Angela Strehli. Vocalist Angela Strehli is an incredibly gifted singer and songwriter, a Texas blues historian, impresario and fan. Born in Lubbock, Texas, Strehli comes out of the same windswept town that produced Buddy Holly, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Inspired by the blues and R&B music that she heard on late-night Angela Strehli's 'Ace of Blues' pays tribute to the artists she admires, and the Texas scene that nurtured her voice. During Austin's blues renaissance in the 70s and 80s, Strehli was known as 'Ace.' She was a mentor to Stevie Ray Vaughan and a driving force at the Antone's nightclub and record label. W.C. Clark, the Godfather of Austin Blues, passed away on March 2 at the age of 84. Part of the bedrock of the Austin music scene, Clark performed on Austin City Limits in 1989 in celebration of his fiftieth birthday, joined by his friends and devotees Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, Kim Wilson, Lou Ann Barton, and Angela Strehli. He was part of the ACL family and we will miss him. Scott Strehli, an Austin native, joined TRI in 2006 and became Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of TRI in November 2014.
