"Gieg" Giegengack passed away on June 4, 2022, after a brief illness. He was 83. An emeritus professor of earth and environmental studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Gieg joined the UPenn faculty soon after earning his PhD at Yale and remained there Robert Giegengack became head coach of Fordham's track team in 1938 at the age of 31, becoming the youngest track coach at a major university. In his first year, his runners set three world records, and finished second in the IC4A Championship. In 1941, Fordham captured their first IC4A title.Earth and Environmental Science Professor Bob Giegengack has fulfilled a boyhood dream of visiting exotic locales from the Sahara to the Antarctic and has earned the admiration and affection of a generation of students.
