The global super-cycle of surging mineral prices and the wave of mining consolidation resulted in new foreign owners for both companies. Focused to date on selling equipment, Xstrata Technology generated $120 million in revenue in 2006 and a profit of $22 million. The Sudbury Process Support Centre complements the company's Brisbane group and provides it with competencies it didn't have prior to the acquisition of Falconbridge. In keeping with Xstrata's for-profit approach Xstrata Nickel today announces plans to restructure its Sudbury operations in response to ongoing challenging market conditions. The restructuring follows the announcement in November 2008 of the accelerated closure of the end-of-life Craig and Thayer-Lindsley operations at Sudbury, both of which will cease operations with immediate effect.
