The close study of photographs by Alfred Stieglitz presented here is greatly indebted to groundbreaking work accomplished by Sarah Greenough in her two-volume catalogue raisonné, Alfred Stieglitz: The Key Set: The Alfred Stieglitz Collection of Photographs (National Gallery of Art, Washington, 2002). Greenough's research clarified titles, dates, and exhibition and publication histories, and Washington, DC—On April 25, 2019, the National Gallery of Art released the "Alfred Stieglitz Key Set" Online Edition, a digital version of an authoritative scholarly publication on the photographs and photographic practice of Alfred Stieglitz. Originally published as a two-volume print edition ("Alfred Stieglitz: The Key Set") in 2002, the digital version incorporates updated scholarship National Gallery of Art. John Marin's fame rested first and foremost on his watercolors, so it is not surprising that only watercolors (no paintings) were included in the 1949 Stieglitz gift. In 1986 and 1987 the Gallery became a major repository and an important center for the study of Marin's work in all media when the artist's son and namesake donated over 500 works on paper and a Marcel Duchamp also visited Stieglitz at the gallery in December. De Zayas published African Negro Art. 1916, April-May. Showed O'Keeffe work at 291 and made first acquaintance with the artist, who visited New York from her teaching post in South Carolina. Stieglitz read Gerald Heard's work and noted Aldous Huxley's latest project. More recent additions include Edward Burtynsky, Jungjin Lee, Joel Meyerowitz, and Vivian Maier. In 2013 Howard Greenberg Gallery announced exclusive representation for the estates of Berenice Abbott and Arnold Newman.
