Fire at former Tenneco building contained. At 8:13 pm Wednesday March 30th fire crews were called to 1800 17th Street East for the report of a working fire in the main electrical room. Upon arrival heavy smoke was present in the electrical room and moderate smoke conditions were in the extent of the building. In January 2021, the 300,000 square Tenneco estimates that these restructuring actions will generate between $20 million and $25 million in annualized savings beginning by the end of 2020. The company also expects restructuring and Tenneco Inc.'s Owen Sound manufacturing plant will close by the end of June 2020, with job cuts expected to start next summer. The plant, which employs 494 people and is one of the few large manufacturing operations left in the city, makes ride control components such as shocks and struts.
