Boris Vorontsov‐Veliaminov was a prolific researcher, devoted pedagogue, and writer on a variety of astronomical subjects. He was the author of a standard astronomy textbook for high school students that, over many decades, passed through numerous editions. His books crafted for general readers attracted several generations of future astronomers. The Vorontsov-Velyaminov scheme is a system for classifying planetary nebulae according to their visual appearance. It recognizes the following main types: 1. Stellar image (I). 2. Smooth disk (II) (a, brighter toward center; b, uniform brightness; c, traces of a ring structure). 3. Galaxies with "rows" in Vorontsov-Velyaminov's terminology stand out among the variety of spiral galactic patterns. A characteristic feature of such objects is the sequence of straight-line segments that forms the spiral arm. In 2001 A. Chernin and co-authors published a catalog of such galaxies which includes 204 objects from the Palomar Atlas.
