(Photo by Beth Rand Photography) Vancouver Island's largest Vaisakhi celebration is taking place in Victoria this month and organizers are expecting to draw one of its biggest crowds yet. Vaisakhi is a significant festival for the Sikh community, celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal Destination Greater Victoria is honoured to be based on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees Nation and the Esquimalt Nation, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. With over 100 annual festivals and diverse artistic, cultural and ethnic communities, Victoria events are a centre Situated in an 1888 heritage home, their multi-level space has plenty of rooms to dine in. Their seasonal menu serves locally sourced ingredients and they even have their own garden. One of my favorite dishes was the "Sleeping Beauty Pancakes!". You can even stop in to grab a coffee to go at their coffee counter. It was once but currently holds the title of oldest in Canada. The largest Chinatown is on the mainland and belongs to Vancouver. When was Victoria Chinatown Made. The first Chinese migrants started arriving directly from Hong Kong to Victoria in 1859. The Tam Kung Temple was built by Hakka people on Government Street in 1876. The Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site allows visitors to see the 100-year-old coastal gun batteries, camouflaged searchlight emplacements, command posts, guardhouses and barracks. These two national historic sites in Victoria are located on the same site. 11. Walk the Inner Harbour Pathways. A food tour is one of the best activities to do in Victoria BC. This was the first thing we did and it was so interesting to learn about Victoria BC and its early beginnings.
