Eugène Ionesco (born Nov. 26, 1909, Slatina, Rom.—died March 28, 1994, Paris, France) was a Romanian-born French dramatist whose one-act "antiplay" La Cantatrice chauve (1949; The Bald Soprano) inspired a revolution in dramatic techniques and helped inaugurate the Theatre of the Absurd.
