Mt. Ashland Ski Area announced that it is about to finally open for the 2022-23 ski season. From Saturday, Dec. 10 to Monday, Dec. 12, the lifts will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Best time to go - Sunset! Situated in Southern Oregon right near the California border lies the Siskiyou Mountain Range's tallest peak, Mount Ashland. Mount Ashland is a very popular area for many recreational activities, one of the most popular activities is skiing. The ski area was opened up in 1963 and has changed hands numerous times. The ski area is known for its varied terrain and affordability; the 240 acres of terrain includes a 1,500-foot slope for beginners only, at just $10 per ticket for the 2017-18 season. The park's five chairlifts provide access to 44 trails, open-bowl skiing and 40 acres of trails for night skiing. And for advanced skiers, the steep slope Mount Ashland is the highest peak in the Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon. It was named for the city of Ashland, located 8.6 miles (14 km) north of the mountain.The Siskiyou Mountains are a subrange of the Klamath Mountains in northwestern California and southwestern Oregon. The mountain is part of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, which encompasses most of the Siskiyou Mountains.The Mt. Ashland Ski Area, which encompasses over 240 acres of national forestland, is situated on and near the summit of Oregon's highest peak west of the Cascade Range.Started largely by local ski enthusiasts, the ski area has been an important community asset since the early 1960s.
