Among the students of Clement of Alexandria was a gifted teenager named Origen, who had been reared in a Christian home. When Origen was 17, a severe persecution broke out in Alexandria, and his father was imprisoned. Origen wrote his father in prison and encouraged him to remain faithful and not to renounce Christ Origen of Alexandria (c. 185 - c. 253), also known as Origen Adamantius, was an early Christian scholar, ascetic, and theologian who was born and spent the first half of his career in Alexandria.He was a prolific writer who wrote roughly 2,000 treatises in multiple branches of theology, including textual criticism, biblical exegesis and hermeneutics, homiletics, and spirituality. Origen's epistemology is primarily of theology and of first philosophy, and secondarily a theory of knowledge. It is based on Plato's Meno and Theaetetus and portions of Aristotle's Metaphysics and De Anima ( Berchman 1984: 167-200; 2003: 437-50). His epistemology of theology is threefold, encompassing mind, language, and metaphysics.
