Bournville Works Housing Society (BWHS) was founded in 1919, with the Cadbury company providing a large proportion of the capital. Around 40 acres of land was leased from BVT and by 1928, the Society had built approximately 350 houses. The Society now has 313 properties. In January 2011, the Society joined BVT and became recognised as I had a wonderful childhood growing up in Bournville with my great friend Robert Millward. I lived in Bournville from 1958 until 1977. The new site was 14½ acres of greenfield located between the villages of Stirchley, Kings Norton and Hide Ad. Bournville has been called the world‟s first planned and balanced community, and the relatively small number of residents who live in Bournville - around 25,000 - are still required to follow the rules of the Village Trust.
