Just installed my latest of 4 sets of D. Allen pickups in a Strat. I have previously installed his Austin Blues in my son's Strat, a set of Cheetahs in my Tele, a set of Big Cats in a Strat..and now a set of his TruVintage 54's in another Strat! His Cplt 51 tele set saved my lousy sounding nashville tele and The Voodoo Blues set is a light top/heavy bottom set with a twist. The neck and middle pickups are wound to about 5.8K with staggered and beveled Alnico 5 magnets. These are right out of the David Allen '69 Voodoo set, and you get one guess as to what tone they were aiming for. They are bright and glassy with a percussive and snappy low end. That guitar received all the pickups I had mention that I tried: Fender, Fralin, Lollar, and Tom Brantley Custom Winds. Had a buyer coming down from Austin in two days, so I rush into removing the Texas Specials, then installing your Texas Floods.
