Legend of Talakadu. It is said that the desert like land here in Talkadu is because of the famous "The Curse of Talkad". It is said that in the year 1610, Raja Wadiyar, conquered Srirangapatna fort from Srirangaraya, then viceroy of Vijayanagar Empire. Â The viceroy then moved to Talakad. His wife, Alamelamma, also followed him. Talakad or Talakadu, an ancient town located towards the left bank of the river Kaveri/Cauvery. It is located at a distance of 185kms from Bengaluru and lies a very short distance of 45kms from Mysuru. It is place of pre-historic settlements. The major portion of this region is covered by sand. Talakadu was once a part of Ganga Empire and then came under the control of Cholas. Later Hoysalas Pathaleshwara Temple, Talakadu Overview. One of the oldest temples constructed by the Ganga kings in Talakadu, Pathaleshwara Temple has some uniqueness to it and one of the five lingams in the town. The Shiva lingam installed in the temple changes its hue with a different time of day. The Lingam is red in the morning, black in the afternoon and Pathaleshwara Temple is another popular pilgrimage site in Talakad. It is considered to be one amongst the earliest temples constructed by Ganga kings in this town. The prime attraction of Pathaleshwara Temple is its Shivalingam, which changes colour at different points of the day. The Shivalingam is red in colour during the morning but changes Talakadu is a town on the left bank of the Kaveri river 45 km (28 miles) from Mysore and 133 km (82 miles) from Bangalore in Karnataka, India.
