Description: Butia capitata is a medium sized, cold-hardy and single-trunked palm with long pinnate leaves that arch inwards towards a thick stout trunk and re-curve towards the ground. Image Usage Requirements and Citations Butia capitata has been confused with Butia odorata (Noblick, 2011).B. capitata is a small palm found only in the Cerrado in Brazil, while B. odorata is a taller palm from Uruguay, Argentina and coastal areas in the south of Brazil (Henderson et al., 1995; Lorenzi et al., 2010).The fruits are round and larger in B. odorata while elongated and smaller in B. capitata (Lorenzi et al., 2010). In frost-free areas, grow in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Alternatively, grow under glass in loam-based compost in bright, filtered light. In growth, water moderately & feed monthly.
