The ICKDSF utility is used primarily to initialize disk volumes. At a minimum, this process involves creating the disk label record and the volume table of contents (VTOC). ICKDSF also can scan a volume to ensure that it is usable, can reformat all the tracks, can write home addresses, as well as other functions. The sample jobs use the ICKDSF utility to perform the volume INIT. When using this utility, note the following information: The utility will issue a WTOR requiring operator intervention to complete the ICKDSF job step. This WTOR can be prevented by specifying PARM='NOREPLYU' on the EXEC statement of the job step and by using the VERIFY keyword init unit(eb62) nvfy vtoc(2,0,4800) volid(1p8902) purge sg The VTOC will start a cylinder 2 track zero ending at cylinder 321 track 14, which is on a cylinder boundary.
