Boko Haram, was established in 2002 in northeast Nigeria. Its founder was Mohommad Yusuf. However, when he died in 2009, the group had then started significant violence in the Nigerian area, and thus was able to cause the deaths of thousands and the displacement of over 2.5 million people. Not only is the conflict ongoing, but has also gotten Boko Haram has since adopted suicide attacks as an important tactic in its struggle against government authority. After relatively low levels of suicide attacks through 2014, the number jumped in Boko Haram, Islamic sectarian movement founded in 2002 in northeastern Nigeria. Since 2009 the group has carried out large-scale acts of violence. In 2015 the group began calling itself Islamic State in West Africa; later, after a split, one faction kept that name while the other reverted back to the original name. During violent raids, Boko Haram fighters killed people trying to flee and looted livestock, money, and other valuables. As Boko Haram continue their relentless cycle of killings, abductions and looting, they are also subjecting women and girls to rape and other sexual violence during their attacks.
