The Gales Creek Trail area has weathered several natural disasters, causing it to be inhospitable to travelers numerous times over the years. Back in the 1930s this spot caught the brunt of the Tillamook Burn forest fires that devastated 311,000 acres before it was extinguished by seasonal rains. And then, in 2007, landslides and washouts Gales Creek Trail (PDF) (Map from Oregon Department of Forestry; large file) (Trailhead: Hwy. 6 at milepost 35; Distance: 11.4 miles; Difficulty: moderate) This trail passes through a remote and scenic section of the Tillamook State Forest, along Gales Creek. Hikers pass small waterfalls, travel over log bridges and through a forest of snags (standing dead Status: All Clear / Green --- Condition: Ideal --- From Gales Creek Campground (GC-CG) to the Top (Bell Camp Road) (and back ~14.6 miles). I cut out or moved 11 trees, and just a few spots did some light tread work with a hand hoe. The trail is fully clear and very nice right now. Well the creeks are currently a little high from snow melt but I made it across Ok and there are small branches This loop hike begins at the North Gales Creek trailhead, located near the town of Timber just south of Highway 26 at a large parking lot just past Reehers Camp. Several trails are accessed via this trailhead, including the Step Creek Trail, the Triple C Loop, and the Gales Creek Trail, which heads south for 10 miles to the South Gales Creek Description. This short trail loops around the Reehers Camp Trailhead, which sits at the northern tip of the Gales Creek Trail. To hike it clockwise, you would actually overlap with the first 0.4 miles of the Gales Creek Trail. When the trail comes back to Cochran Road, continuing across the road starts the Triple C Trail.
