Yervoy (ipilimumab) is an immunotherapy medication that's used to treat several different types of cancer, such as melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and renal cell cancer (a type of kidney cancer). It works by turning on your immune system to attack cancer cells. Yervoy (ipilimumab) is given as an injection into the vein (intravenously or IV) at an infusion center or provider's office. Yervoy is prescribed in combination with Opdivo (nivolumab). Yervoy is also referred to by its drug name, ipilimumab. Yervoy is a member of a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. Yervoy is believed to work by binding to cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen 4, an inhibitory receptor on the body's immune cells. Dosage for liver cancer. The typical dose of Yervoy to treat liver cancer is 3 mg/kg. You'll usually receive this dose once every 3 weeks for a maximum of four doses.
