Watling Street is a very ancient trackway that runs across England from Dover to Wales. It was first used by the Britons between settlements in the Canterbury and St Albans areas. The Romans later built a road along its route - The London to Dover section is identified on the Antonine Itinerary as Iter III. Watling Street is one of the most famous old streets in London, part of a cross-country road that ran from the English Channel coast to a Roman fort near what is now the border with Wales.
