Manorbier (/ ˌ m æ n ər ˈ b ɪər /; Welsh: Maenorbŷr [mɑɨnɔrˈbɨːr]) is a village, community and parish on the south coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales. The name means the 'Manor of Pŷr'. The community includes Jameston, Lydstep and Manorbier Newton.. An electoral ward with the same name exists. It stretches inland to St Florence and at the 2011 Census, the population was 2,083. Manorbier is on the south west coast of Pembrokeshire, 5-miles from popular Tenby. To visit both the beach and castle, you can use the Manorbier Beach Car Park that is clearly sign posted from the village.Once here the beach is a short, two-minute walk along flat terrain. For the castle you will need to exit the carpark, and turn right, towards Manorbier Castle. One of the main attractions of Manorbier Castle has to be the location. No other castle this well preserved is as close to the sea in Pembrokeshire. It's well maintained with plenty to explore inside. Built by the Normans the Castle is over 900 years old and is the birth place of Gerald of Wales (Geraldus Cambrensis). Manorbier is a south-westerly facing beach making it a favourite surfing beach, however, please be aware that the sea here does have some very strong currents. If you're planning to visit, check out the tide times to make sure you've plenty of beach to play on and that you don't get cut off by the incoming tide! Green Coast Award 2022.
