The Neumann family had their third child and first son born into the family on March 28, 1811. On the same day, he was taken to their church and baptized John Nepomucene, after St. John Nepomucene, Bohemia's protector. John was born in Prachatice, Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic.) Saint John Neumann was the first member of his community, the Redemptorists, to profess vows in the United States.
