In November 2022, Arizona-based TPI obtained a 10-year lease extension of its manufacturing plant in Newton, Iowa, in order to make blades for its partner, planning to kick off production there in 2024. In support of the agreement, TPI plans to build a new 316,000-square-foot facility in Newton, Iowa, that will create approximately 500 new jobs. The new plant will expand TPI's capacity to produce blades for GE's 1.5-megawatt wind turbines, which are among the most widely used wind turbines in the world, with more than 6,500 installed. According to a notice on the state workforce development website, TPI Composites of Newton, a maker of wind blade turbines, plans to lay off 710 workers by Dec. 31.
