We are a twice weekly gathering of diverse individuals who practice meditation and study the teachings of the Buddha according to the Theravada (pronounced terra VAH duh) school of Buddhism, the traditional Buddhism of Southern and Southeast Asia.IMCR, under the name The Vipassana Group, first met at Ekoji in November 1994, and began weekly Friday meetings on March 3, 1995. Reverend Kenryu Takashi Tsuji (1 920-2004), a Shin Buddhist priest, encouraged the creation of Richmond's Ekoji Buddhist Sangha as not just a place for Pure Land worship, but a home for multiple Buddhist sects.
