Still unable to find my own photo of the distinctive Art Deco style building that once stood on Main Street in Springfield, here is one from Albert Steiger, Inc., published in a Springfield Downtown Retail Gallery. This exhibition highlights the department stores and specialty shops that made Springfield the largest and best shopping destination in Western Massachusetts during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Memorabilia and photographs from stores such as D. H. Brigham, Haynes & Company, Forbes & Wallace, Steiger's, and Steiger Building. The Steiger Building is from 1899. It is located at 259-271 High Street. It was started by Albert Steiger the department store magnate. The building was made in the Beaux Arts style as was the Childs and the Woolworth's Building. In 1896 Steiger's is at 215 High Street. They moved to the new location and started to grow fast.
