Built in 1929 it accommodated banquets, receptions, presentations, musical events, and other types of programming. It is named in honor of the Very Reverend John R. Cortelyou president of DePaul University from 1964 University Center (UC) 525 S. State St. Chicago, IL 60604. DePaul has shared the University Center (UC) with other Loop institutions including Columbia College Chicago and Roosevelt University since 2004. The 18-story residence hall houses more than 250 DePaul students. Residents range from freshmen through law/graduate school students. At the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, over 100 people packed Cortelyou Commons as DePaul University honored the Young Lords organization and their legacy of battling gentrification and displacement of the Puerto Rican community in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
