The aim of this project was to inform the local community, and others with an interest, of the contribution made by the people of Sampford Peverell to the First World War and how this affected their lives. Our secondary aims included adding missing names to the Memorial Plaque located within the local church, producing a book about the village In common with other towns and villages in the locality, Sampford Peverell has a long history of dissenters with records back to the 18th century. In 1802 a Weslyan Methodist Chapel was constructed at Higher Town. It was remodelled and extended in the latter part of the 19th century. The 200 year old building still stands on its elevated site An extensive archive of records survives from the period when the Manor of Sampford Peverell was owned by the Paullett (otherwise Powlett, Poulett) family from 1540 to 1806.
