Viburnum carlesii 'Compactum' - slowly maturing to 3' tall by 3' wide, a truly compact form of the species, but unfortunately rare in commerce. Viburnum x carlcephalum - Snowball Viburnum - maturing to 8' tall by 8' wide, with huge (5" across) fragrant white spherical inflorescences, a hybrid of Viburnum carlesii and Viburnum macrocephalum. Compactum 'Compactum' - compact, slow-growing, rounded form; tolerant of juglone; pink buds open in spring to sweetly fragrant white flowers arranged in snowball-like clusters, to 3" across; fall foliage dull red to wine-red to burgundy; grows 2.5 -4' tall and wide arrowwood 'Compactum'. A slow-growing deciduous shrub, to around 1.2m high, with a dense, rounded habit and oval-shaped, dark green leaves with irregularly toothed edges and pale greyish undersides. Dome-shape clusters of pink buds open to fragrant, tubular white flowers in spring, followed by small berries that ripen to black. A nurturing ground is the key to growing any ornamental plant at its best. And this is entirely relative to the growth of Korean spice viburnum. They typically thrive well under moist but well-drained soil having a slightly acidic soil pH ranging from 5.5 to 7.5. The only thing to avoid is overwatering them. Based upon the rapid growth rate and ultimate size of V. x burkwoodii', we don't feel that 'Compact Beauty' will ever come close to matching its parent in size.
